Charity Love- Operation Smile

I love love love to help others.  One of things I try to instill in Little Bear is thinking beyond himself.  It's a hard concept for a small child but he is slowly getting it.   This past year we filled two Christmas boxes for children in need. It's nice to be able to give back in some small way.

There are times where I just don't have the "extra" money to donate to a charity.  This is where I try to make smart purchases that I know are going to help others.

I was happy to learn that Campus Book Rental sponsors an amazing charity called Operation Smile.  This means every single time you rent a book from Campus Book Rental they make a donation to Operation Smile.  Since, Campus Book Rental has rental books that cost 40-90% less than actually buying the textbook  you are saving yourself some money too.  Plus, they have free shipping both ways.  I am kind of jealous and wish they had this when I was in college.  Uggh that makes me sound old.

For those who are not familiar with Operation Smile, they are an organization that performs cleft lip surgeries on children whose families can not afford them.  As I was reading on  the Operation Smile website I found that in some cultures a child with a cleft lip may be shunned because of the way they look.  So sad.

Operation Smile has managed to do over 200,000 surgeries.  Just think of how many children that is??  It seriously gave me goosebumps thinking of how this charity has impacted these children.

I hope that if you are renting books for school you would consider Campus Book Rental.  Just think you could be helping a child get a much needed surgery.

* Campus Book Rental asked me to write this post.  All opinions and love of Operation Smile are all mine!

  1. I was a big book renter in college. Books are so dang expensive.
It's great that you are instilling this lesson into your little man so young!
