Potty Training Update

You can read all about how I unpotty trained my son here.  It's a guest post I did on Lanaya's blog Raising Reagan.

Since that post we have had lots of successes.    Little Bear's school was adamant that they wanted them in underwear after the holiday break.  I really struggled with this.  I knew he wasn't ready to wear underwear and I just wanted to protect him from having an accident at school, but I finally faced facts and sent him in underwear.

Of course, he had an accident, but it was the best thing that could have happened to him.  He came home from school that day just extra whiny and cranky.  He cried for 15 minutes over something so silly and not potty related and finally he said something like he had an accident at school and it was a mistake. I obviously already knew this since he wasn't wearing the clothes I had sent him in.  I reassured him that everyone makes mistakes and he could do better next time.

I don't know what it was about that specific accident (because he has had many though not at school) but it was like a switch went off and he realized that other kids in his class were potty trained and he wanted to be too.

He no longer wanted the pullup (YAY!) and really focused on using the potty.  Sure, we have had some "mistakes" (his word for accident), but for the most part he is potty trained.

We have had multiple days in a row of no accidents and than a random day where he might have 1 or 2 accidents.  We have ventured to the mall in big boy underwear and I learned that Little Bear is quite the public restroom snob (so like his mama) and even did a car trip over an hour each way in big boy underwear and he did GREAT!  So far things are going really well at school too.

We are still working on the nighttime potty routine but I am okay with that.  The important thing is he feels so proud of himself for conquering the potty at school.  As a mama I could not be any happier. Pin It Now!

  1. It is part of being taught or trained by the "pack." The "pack" is responsible for bullying that we hear so much of today. Bullying is really the negative side of "pack" training to make everyone conform to the "pack" standards.

THere are some positives to conforming to the pack.
